Community Colleges in Lima, Ohio

Founded in 1831, Lima provides several opportunities for students who wish to extend their education beyond high school. The city is home to one the state-funded community colleges, and two other community colleges are within commuting distance. In addition, the Ohio State University operates a Lima campus to provide education beyond the two-year Associate's degree programs offered by the community colleges in the area. The city also features Mount Vernon Nazarene University and the University of Northwestern Ohio.
  1. Rhodes State College

    • Located in Lima, Rhodes State College is a two-year public college with approximately 3,700 students. Fifty-four percent of the students attend class on a full-time basis. Seventy-two percent of the students at Rhodes are women. The campus covers 565 acres with eight buildings that have a combined square footage of 210,950. Rhodes separates its courses into five divisions: Allied Health, Arts and Sciences, Business and Public Service, Information Technology and Nursing. Each area offers several majors that prepare students for careers in specific fields. In Arts and Sciences, for example, degree options include humanities, mathematics, physical and biological sciences and social and behavioral sciences. In all, Rhodes offers 90 different Associate's degrees and certificates. Rhodes was founded in 1969. The college was known as Lima Technical College until 2002, when the school's name was changed to honor former Ohio Governor James A. Rhodes.

    Edison Community College

    • Located 40 miles south of Lima in Piqua, Ohio, Edison Community College is a state-supported public community college. The school offers two-year Associate's degrees in more than 30 degree areas. The degrees are designed to prepare students for the transfer from Edison to a four-year college. The school also offers a wide range of certificate programs that provide students with an opportunity to go directly to the workforce upon completion. The school's Associate's degrees are in Applied Science, Applied Business, Arts, Science and Technical Study. Within each area, students are able to choose from several majors. Majors that are available include accounting, computer IT, criminal justice, nursing, industrial management and business administration. In addition to the Piqua campus, the school offers courses from a campus in Greenville, Ohio.

    Owens Community College

    • Located 30 miles northeast of Lima in Findlay, Ohio, Owens Community Colleges offers 130 program areas. The school was found in 1965. Owens works with more than 20 area four-year colleges and universities to ensure that credits earned transfer to the four-year schools. Owens has campuses in Toledo and Findlay. The Findlay campus covers 60 acres.
