The United Methodist Education Foundation (UMHEF) awards college scholarships through the United Methodist Dollars for Scholars Program. Eligible candidates can apply for 350 scholarships. Full-time students must attend United Methodist (UM) colleges or seminaries and must participate in the UM church. Each church receives one scholarship. UMHEF chooses scholarship recipients randomly. Doctoral students do not qualify. Apply after Jan. 1 and submit by March 1. UMHEF announces awards after May 1.
Surviving victims and dependents of the 9/11 terrorist attacks qualify to apply for the United Methodist Education Foundation September 11th Memorial Scholarship. UMHEF places no cap on how many candidates may apply. The amount of each scholarship depends upon how many qualifying students apply. Applicants must have lost a parent or have been directly disabled in the attacks. Candidates must attend UM schools in the United States and be U.S. citizens or permanent residents enrolled as full-time students.
The Episcopal Church supports students in the dramatic arts. According to its website, the Episcopal Actor's Guild of America has established a number of endowments to support dramatic arts students of all faiths. The Thomas Barbour Memorial Scholarships & Awards Program awards five scholarships each year. Four students at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts receive at least $1,000 a year. Students in the University of Missouri Theater Arts program apply for one annual George C. Scott Memorial Scholarship. The Episcopal Church awards a sixth scholarship semi-annually through the Claire Strakosch Scholarship endowment.
The Misticos Scholarship offers ecumenical aid to one girl and three boys in the Greek Orthodox and Episcopal faiths. Recipients may use their awards to cover expenses as they attend the college of their choice. Students in continuing education programs may apply for Bishop Allin Lay Scholarships. Lay members of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Mississippi use awards to continue their Christian education in adult education programs. The Bishop of the Diocese appoints an administrator to disburse these scholarships.
