The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) is a non-profit organization that offers study abroad programs to both college students and recent high school graduates. According to CIEE, its mission is "to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world." With over 25 country locations, NYU Summer Abroad offers many opportunities for NYU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as students from other institutions. Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best colleges with study abroad programs, NYU's program "involves substantial academic work...and considerable interaction between the student and the culture." An applicant must have a high school diploma and have completed at least two full semesters of college credit. Programs are distinguished by country location or school and subject.

A member of NAFSA (National Association of International Educators), the Center for Study Abroad is an accredited program offering academic credits since 1990. CSA partners with many colleges and universities and offers students an affordable option to study abroad. Financial aid is available to students who qualify. There are programs available in Austria, Brazil, Chile, China, Costa Rica, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia and Spain.
