Research study abroad and exchange programs through a local university. If you are a full-time student, look into the education abroad programs your university offers. Many public and private United States universities have programs which offer study exchange possibilities with Australian universities. These programs allow you to take classes at an Australian university while earning credit towards graduation at your home university. Check the requirements to see if you are eligible for such programs.
Research possibilities for independent study abroad. If your home university doesn't offer the option to study in Australia, look into studying at an Australian university on your own. You can sign up for university courses as an individual foreign student. If you have a specific idea for an independent research project you would like to complete in Australia, apply with your proposed project directly to a university, private school or organization. Such programs may or may not transfer to your home university towards graduation, but studying during your summer break will allow you to make normal progress towards your degree.
Apply to your chosen program. Check that you fulfill the requirements for eligibility and gather the materials needed for your application. Application requirements will vary, but in general your acceptance into a study program will depend on your transcripts, recommendations, personal statement and an interview.
Put extreme thought and care into your personal statement. Describe in detail why you specifically want to study in Australia. Explain how your time at an Australian university would enhance your studies, and how your presence would benefit the community of your host university. If possible, mention the exact university where you would like to study and why.
