The Illinois Center for Broadcasting has two locations; Chicago and Lombard. These fully accredited broadcasting centers have been educating people since 1986 with hands-on instruction. Students are able to develop expertise in every aspect of broadcasting and learn from top professionals in the industry on a daily basis and through internship opportunities in major markets. A variety of broadcasting courses with audio and visual emphasis are offered in a 10-month program.
Western Illinois University offers a bachelor of arts degree in broadcasting that includes a variety of courses with hands-on training, experienced instructors and state-of-the-art equipment. This fully accredited school allows students to study digital audio and video production techniques and gives them the opportunity to put their skills into practice. Other aspects of broadcasting are taught in this program such as nonlinear editing, animation, web and multimedia graphics, post-production and sports, along with examination of broadcasting history. The typical bachelor's degree takes about four years to complete.
The mission of the Broadcasters Mentoring Group, or BMG, is to equip aspiring broadcasters with the tools and training they need. BMG is based in Calabasas, California, and is one of the only programs available in the United States and Canada where apprentices are partnered with working professionals in the broadcasting industry. Whether you are looking for a career as a music DJ, sportscaster or even talk show host, BMG offers several hands-on training programs specifically for these kinds of broadcasting. This program is accredited and has both three-month and six-month apprenticeships.
The Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy offers several visual arts programs, which includes broadcasting. Located in Chicago, Tribeca offers a two-year, 60-credit program in film and broadcast that has several focus tracks or emphases to choose from, including writing and producing for broadcast. After two years at Tribeca you will have received hands-on experience in broadcasting, specifically in film, a reel of professional-quality work and the ability to work in the broadcasting field. Accreditation for this program is pending as of 2011.
