The Massage Institute of Cleveland is a family-owned school that opened in 1997. It's the oldest continuously operating massage school in the eastern portion of the state. It boasts a spacious facility and offers a 28-week program designed to launch careers in massage therapy. Classes include Anatomy and Pathology, Reflexology and Spa Treatments, Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage and Neuromuscular Therapy. Graduates of the Message Institute of Cleveland are eligible to take the NCBTMB exam necessary to receive a license.
Located in Knoxville, the Tennessee School of Massage's goal is to prepare a student to successfully pass the NCMBTMB or MBLEX and obtain her license. A high school diploma is required to enroll. Courses include Swedish Massage, Aromatherapy Message, Hot Stone Message, Deep Tissue Massage and Reflexology. The school is located in a state-of-the-art 6,000-square-foot facility especially designed for massage therapy instruction. It features a student library and multimedia presentation equipment. Job placement assistance is also available.
Formerly known as the Institute of Therapeutic Massage & Movement, the Mind Body Institute is located in Nashville. The school strives to maintain small class sizes to facilitate more personal instruction and prepare students to take the MBLEX or NCBTMB exams. The Mind Body Institute also offers a massage therapy intern clinic. The school was founded in 1996 and boasts a 5,600-square-foot facility with multimedia equipment, a student library and clay-modeling techniques.
Established in 1987, the Cumberland Institute is the oldest institution in the state that teaches holistic therapeutic massage. The Brentwood-based school offers a 500-hour Massage Therapist Certification in various time periods, including a 15-month fast track. The course can be completed via full-time evening classes, as well as weekend classes, in five quarters. Core courses include Introduction to Bodywork, Touch Dynamics, Kinesiology and Applied Anatomy and Bodywork Ethics. An intern clinic is also available. The school is a member of the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP).
