Saint Louis HVAC Schools

According to Applied Technology Services, a St. Louis technical school, approximately 292,000 Americans worked in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration in 2006. They remain in high demand as today's heating and air conditioning systems become more advanced and require experts. An increased focus on indoor air quality has also contributed to a strong need for people in the field. In the St. Louis area, anyone who wants to work in the HVAC field can gain the necessary technical knowledge through several scholastic programs.
  1. Ranken Technical College

    • The college is a private, nonprofit institution based in St. Louis. Founded in the early 1900s, the school offers technical training in more than 100 fields. One option is an Associate's of Technology degree in refrigeration, air conditioning and heating. Students attend classes full time for two years and graduate with the skills needed to work as mechanics in the heating, air conditioning and refrigeration field. The school also offers a certificate program, which requires only two general education courses in addition to the technical courses.

    Applied Technology Services

    • With four campuses, including one in downtown St. Louis, Applied Technology Services offers technical education to adult students through the Special School District of St. Louis County. The Special School District has an Adult Technical Education Department, and the district has offered technical training to adult students since 1968. Applied Technology Services trains approximately 900 students annually. The school offers heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration training programs. The programs lead to a certificate, and students then only need to pass required tests to work as professionals in the field. The HVAC-R programs are in four categories to allow students to specialize in a particular area. The program titles are Basic Refrigeration Theory, Basic Electrical Theory, Home Heating and Cooling, and Commercial Refrigeration. Each is a 90-hour program. The school also offers a 45-hour program designed to prepare students for special certification in their field. Preparation for North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification requires two years of prior field experience.

    St. Louis Community College

    • With four campuses in the St. Louis area, St. Louis Community College offers associate's degree and certificate programs in many areas. The Associate's in Applied Science realm features several technological areas of study, and one program is Mechanical Engineering Technology. The program requires students to earn 70 credit hours. This includes a range of courses. One course is HVAC Operator I. The course provides education relating to the operation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating and control systems. There is an emphasis placed on preventive maintenance.
