At the Tennessee Technology Center at Murfreesboro, students receive certification as a Heating and Air Conditioning Mechanic Helper or a Unit Repairer. The program also offers diplomas for Refrigerator Technicians, HVAC Technicians and HVAC Refrigerator Technicians. Tuition is $1,968. Students are also required to purchase their own tools and materials for class.

One of the Tennessee campuses of Miller-Motte Technical College, located in the Nashville suburb of Madison, Tenn., has an associate of applied science degree program for aspiring HVACR technicians -- the "R" stands for "refrigeration." To be accepted into the college, applicants must be interviewed by an admissions representative, take a preliminary exam to determine scholastic level, be old enough to legally not be obligated to attend high school, and have good moral character and conduct.

Chattanooga State Community College, located roughly 90 miles south of Murfreesboro, offers a technical diploma in air conditioning and refrigeration. This program explores the theory, application, operation, and maintenance of simple and advanced air conditioning/refrigeration systems. Tuition is $947 per semester. The student will continue to take the air conditioning and refrigeration class each semester until all skills are demonstrated as mastered.
