Cape Fear Community College, in Wilmington, North Carolina, offers an HVAC program designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in light commercial and residential heating and air conditioning. The diploma program offers classes in basic computer literacy, communication and math as well as HVAC-related classes in refrigeration systems, heat pump technology, residential system design and comfort cooling. The diploma program takes three semesters to complete.

North Seattle Community College offers a program in HVAC in partnership with Lennox and HVAC Learning Systems. NSCC fits its program to the needs of employers, optimizing graduates' ability to get entry-level jobs in the field. In addition to classes, students at NSCC take field trips to professional environments in the Puget Sound area to see HVAC professionals at work. Field trips involve question and answer periods with foremen and engineers.
