Top HVAC Schools

Job prospects are expected to be abundant in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) industry over the next decade. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, HVAC "employment is projected to grow much faster than the average" with an "increase [of] 28 percent during the 2008-18 decade." The Bureau also says those with formal technical training have a better chance of being hired by employers than those who do not. To prepare, there are a number of top quality schools currently offering HVAC training.
  1. Coyne College

    • Coyne College's HVAC program provides students with hands-on training taught by professionals working in the field, specifically taking into account the recent industry shift toward new, energy efficient technologies. Students will learn how to install, operate, troubleshoot and service both commercial and domestic systems. Some of the courses include Introduction to Mechanical Refrigeration Systems, Introduction to Electrical Servicing, Gas Heating, Commercial Controls and Applications, and Essential Workplace Skills. Each student has the option to earn either a two-year Associate's degree in Applied Science or a full Bachelor's degree, depending on his or her career path. The school is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) and has also been approved by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE).

    Pennsylvania College of Technology

    • The Pennsylvania College of Technology allows students to pursue either an HVAC Associate's degree or a Bachelor's degree in HVAC Design Technology. The former degree teaches communication, math and science skills in addition to training on relevant systems in order to develop a sound mechanical aptitude for entry-level work in the field. The four-year degree also teaches the technical aspects of systems design and environmental control, but adds business functions like estimation and project management, which is ideal for those looking to start their own business. In addition, the school focuses on teaching the ins and outs of renewable energy technologies, making graduates more attractive to "green companies." The school is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
