HVAC Engineering Schools

HVAC technicians control the humidity, temperature and overall air quality in commercial, industrial, residential and other buildings. Schools that offer heating, ventilating and air conditioning engineering programs prepare students for entry into the field as technicians for repair and installation. Although technicians are trained in both maintenance/repair and installation, he or she may specialize in one or the other.
  1. Sinclair Community College

    • Sinclair Community College has an HVAC engineering technology department that also covers the refrigeration aspect of engineering technology. This department has several program options for students to pursue whether they are seeking a certificate of completion or an actual degree. The certificate options include HVAC apprentice, HVAC light commercial and residential service, plumbing apprentice, sheet metal apprentice and HVAC plumber/pipefitter journeyman. The degree option is to pursue an Associate of Applied Science degree.

    Ferris State University

    • Ferris State University has an HVACR (heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration) engineering technology program that leads to the completion of a Bachelor of Science degree. In addition to classroom instruction, students also participate in system analysis for industries and business in West Michigan. A paid internship is also part of the program and is completed in the summer before the beginning of senior year. Courses include small group decision making, secondary system select design, energy audit and analysis, and commercial HVAC system design.
