Harvey Mudd College, founded in 1955, is a private liberal arts college that emphasizes science, engineering and mathematics. The college belongs to the consortium known as the Claremont Colleges, which also includes nearby Pitzer College, Scripps College, Claremont McKenna College and Pomona College. As of 2009, the school had about 750 undergraduates working toward Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in ten different fields, including engineering. Cooper Union's Albert Nerken School of Engineering enrolls about 550 students each year.
