Hawkeye Community College offers a program in medical laboratory technology which covers a variety of areas in medical lab testing including microbiology, hematology, blood banking and immunology. Students also receive training in the liberal arts, basic science, clinical chemistry and anatomy and physiology. Other courses include medical terminology, laboratory mathematics and parasitology. This program takes two years to complete and includes 24 weeks of clinical experience in a private lab or hospital.

The medical laboratory technician program at Ivy Tech Community College is offered at three campuses in Indiana: Sellersburg, South Bend and Terre Haute. Students in this two-year program take liberal arts courses such as Introduction to Psychology and Introduction to Sociology, as well as professional-technical courses like medical law and ethics, immunology techniques, clinical pathology and clinical microbiology applications.

Students enrolled in the Gadsden State Community College clinical laboratory technology program undergo two years of lectures and clinical experience. Observation hours in a lab are required prior to application. Students take a combination of liberal arts and technical courses such as college algebra, general psychology, oral communication, urinalysis and body fluids, phlebotomy and microbiology. The final semester is spent in clinical practicum.
