Vocational Schools in Hawaii

The state of Hawaii is home to a number of vocational schools. With locations throughout the islands, these public and private institutions help students prepare for careers in healthcare, construction, cosmetology and a number of other industries through classroom instruction and hands-on training. Hawaii's vocational schools consist of both private and public institutions and offer financial aid and a variety of student services.
  1. Big Island Beauty College

    • Established in 1998, Big Island Beauty College is on the island of Hawai'i. Admission is open to anyone 16 age or older with a high school diploma or the equivalent. The school offers a three-month nail technician, a six-month esthetician (skin care) and a 14-month cosmetology program. Students obtain hands-on experience working in the school's salon, which is open to the public. The school provides a limited number of scholarships for students and provides payment plans to help students afford the cost of tuition. Job placement assistance is available for graduates.

    Maui Community College

    • A public two-year vocational school, Maui College is part of the University of Hawaii system of schools. The college offers branches on the islands on the islands on Molokai, Lana'i and Maui. The school's main office is in Kahului and is home to around 3,000 students. Vocational programs include agricultural science, florticulture and landscape management, dental assisting, culinary arts, engineering technology, fashion technology, hospitality, case management, carpentry and welding. A number of programs include internships, which allow students to earn credit and gain work experience. The school offers medical and dental care services for students as well as tutoring. Financial aid in the form of grants, loans and scholarships is available for students.

    Kaua'i Community College

    • Located in the city of Lihue, Kaua'i Community College serves students on Hawaii's western most island, Kaua'i. Programs offered at the school include business technology, culinary arts, hospitality and tourism, nursing, massage therapy, medical office administration, botany, marine science, early childhood education, auto repair, computer networking and maintenance technology. For-credit internships and paid co-operative work programs are provided in some academic programs. Personal and career counseling are available for students. In addition to federal and state loan and grant programs, Kaua'i Community College has a work-study program for eligible students.
