Founded in 1978, Davis Applied Technology College is a public vocational school in Kaysville, Utah, a suburban area 25 miles north of Salt Lake City. The school is home to more than 50,000 students. The dental assisting program at Davis is open only to high school students and to individuals 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or GED certificate. Applicants of all ages must pass a criminal background check to enroll. Students in the program study computer science, dental law, anatomy, ethics, radiology, mathematics, office administration and psychology. Courses in job seeking and workplace relations are also mandatory. Before graduation, students complete two internships, gaining a total of 300 hours of clinical experience. The curriculum is available as a morning or afternoon program. Tuition is free for high school students and financial aid is available for eligible adults. Graduates from the program receive a certificate of completion.

Provo College is a for-profit career training school that offers programs in health care, business, design, technology and criminal justice. The college offers a 12-month diploma program in dental assisting, which includes a three-month internship in a local dentist's office. Topics covered in the program's course of study include radiography, dental materials, dental terminology, microbiology, clinical laboratory technology and infection control. One course in career development is also necessary for graduation. The school participates in federal grant and loan and private lending financial aid programs. A limited number of students receive institutional scholarships from the school. Provo College provides resume writing and interview preparation assistance to help students secure employment after graduation.

A public technical school for high school students and adults, Bridgerland Applied Technology College offers its dental assisting program at campuses in Logan, Utah, and Brigham City, Utah. High school students can also take the program in Woodruff, Utah. The program requires six to 11 months of full-time study to complete. All students must have CPR certification and pass a background check prior to enrolling. Students complete five laboratory practice courses on campus and a 300-hour internship in a dentist's office prior to graduation. In addition, students take classes in job seeking and may complete a special independent study that includes additional clinical hours or research. A limited number of courses are available online. Bridgerland provides free education for high school students and offers federal financial aid for qualified adults.
