Bucks County Community College in Newtown, Pennsylvania, offers a dental assisting certification program. Completion of the 70-hour program allows students to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board's Radiology Health and Safety Examination (RHS). BCCC dental assisting students learn how to function as an administrative and clinical dental assistants. Subjects covered include the history of dental assisting, office skills, oral anatomy, dental equipment use, taking x-rays and sterilization. Two schedules accommodate students' needs; 14 Saturday classes from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and 20 evening classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Financial aid is available to qualified students.

Sanford-Brown Institute has locations throughout the U.S., including Trevose, Pennsylvania, in Bucks County. Sanford-Brown offers a dental assisting diploma program that trains students to work along side dentists, caring for patients in both clinical and clerical settings. Students learn how to dental office equipment, clean teeth, take x-rays, educate patients about oral care and communication with patients and dentists, in addition to dental terminology. Students must take part in an externship following the completion of classroom and lab hours, which provides real-life experience. Students who complete the program are titled Certified Dental Assistants. Financial assistance may be available to qualified students.
