Irene Gauthier began studying massage in the 1950s. At her massage school, she seeks to teach massage skills with a holistic approach and as a healing art. Students who study at Irene's Mysomassalogy Institute learn a variety of skills they can tailor to specific clients. In addition to taking massage classes, students are also expected to work in the school's massage clinic that takes outside clients. Students are supervised by instructors at the massage clinic. The student massage clinic offers one-hour massages for $40 (as of May 2010) and has gift certificates available. Before they're able to give massages at the school, students must be trained in Swedish massage and have been enrolled in the school for at least five months. After the massage, clients are asked to fill out a brief survey on the student's technique.
