Mott Community College offers two- and four-year degrees, along with certificates of achievement in the trades including heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), automobile mechanics, construction, cosmetology, machinery and welding. The college also offers associate's degrees in HVAC, automobile repair and painting, automotive technology, industrial technology and the culinary arts. Students who pursue associate's degree programs need to fulfill the college's general education requirements along with specialized courses required for the program in which they enroll.
Baker College is a private four-year school that offers certificate programs in auto body technology, automotive services, truck driving and welding. Its two-year programs include architecture and construction technology, auto body technology, computer-assisted design, design technology and mechanical technology. The school has flexible programs for non-traditional students who may be working full time, heading a family or are high school students who want to take classes outside of the school where they are enrolled. Students at Baker College can also complete some classes online.
License to Build is a construction training school that holds classes in several cities in Michigan, including Flint. The program prepares students to take the Michigan Builder's License exam, and offers continuing education classes so contractors can keep their licenses current. The pre-licensing program lasts 60 hours; continuing education classes vary in length. The continuing education classes cover lead paint safety and building codes and safety. License to Build holds most of its classes in Flint in the evenings, Tuesday through Thursday.
The Flint School of Therapeutic Massage provides training for massage therapists, who need to have a license to practice in Michigan. The 600-hour program teaches Swedish massage, basic shiatsu, sports massage, polarity, trigger point therapy, hydrotherapy, myofascial release, and business and ethics for a massage therapist. The program requires 100 hours of clinical experience and 500 hours of class time. Students who successfully complete the program receive a certificate that allows them to take the state licensing exam. Besides the basic massage program, students can also study techniques related to spa procedures. Students can also take in-depth massage courses including advanced medical massage and massage instructor programs.
