The Salon Professional Academy (TSPA), a well-known chain of cosmetology schools with Redken 5th Avenue School designation, has a site in the Gainesville area. Redken, a popular hair-care line, helps train the academy's students and instructors. Students receive in-classroom instruction, as well as hands-on training in the academy's styling area that includes styling stations, shampoo stations and esthetics beds, and many students end up placed at high-end private salons or Redken Club 5th Avenue salons after graduation. BLY's School of Cosmetology offers a number of basic cosmetology programs to help students prepare to pass the Florida Board of Cosmetology licensing exam. The programs offered are cosmetology, barbering, skin care and manicuring. The cosmetology program teaches students the basics of hairstyling, manicuring and cosmetology. Further instruction will be given on salon and career management.

There are no other cosmetology schools in the immediate Gainesville area, but there are several in bordering municipalities. The American Academy of Cosmetology, in nearby Orange Park, offers barbering, skin specialist, nail specialist, full specialist programs and a braiding certification. The Regency Beauty Institute also has a campus in Orange Park, as does the Orange Park International School of Beauty. These schools are all within a 1 hour and 15 minute drive from Gainesville, according to Google Maps.
