• The National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) has its own Professional Development Department, offering courses in kitchen design to aspiring and longtime design professionals. These courses are offered online and at colleges around the country. The approved NKBA curriculum offers students an easy transition into certification with this national association.

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh

• This well-known school of art and design offers a program in kitchen design through its online division. The program, completed at your own pace, earns the student a Bachelor's of Science in Interior Design. Computer-assisted drafting and design is covered, as well as spacial planning and design history. There also is a diploma available in Residential Planning. Although this is a comprehensive interior design program, rather than one focused exclusively on kitchen work, students new to the industry will benefit from the broad curriculum.

Harrington College of Design

• This small design school in Chicago offers a variety of design curricula, including a comprehensive interior design program with a strong kitchen design component. Harrington offers master's and bachelor's degrees in design, and its programs are accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation.

Westwood College

• Westwood College is a preprofessional college sponsored by Alta College, Inc., in Denver. It offers a bachelor's degree in interior design through online courses or at one of a dozen campuses around the country. Courses in interior residential design and residential CAD design allow students create kitchen and bath spaces under the guidance of an instructor. Sustainable design methods are covered at length in Westwood's courses, and in complex designs such as kitchens, many choices are made that affect a home's sustainability rating.
