Kitchen and Bath Design Schools

Though many colleges and universities offer interior decorating or design programs, few offer certifications in kitchen and bath design and fewer still specialize in the field. The National Kitchen and Bath Association, the preeminent authority on kitchen and bath design and the owner of the industry's yearly show, lists 34 colleges and universities as offering a kitchen and bath program certified by the organization. Of these, a handful have specialized certifications or associate degrees pertaining to this niche exclusively.
  1. Brigham Young University

    • Winner of the 2010 Excellence in Education Award granted by the National Kitchen and Bath Association, Brigham Young University in Rexburg, Idaho, offers kitchen and bath courses incorporated in its comprehensive interior design program. With the aim of preparing students to engage in kitchen and bath design immediately upon graduation, the department focuses on developing problem solving skills, design proficiency and an aesthetic eye.

    Boston Architectural College

    • The Boston Architectural College in Massachusetts offers a kitchen and bath certification program which encompasses 12 required classes for a total of 33 college credits. These courses include drawing, construction, business strategies, and mechanical and lighting aspects unique to kitchen and bath renovations. Design classes focus on architectural and interior decorating elements, as well as material estimation.

    Art Institute of York Pennsylvania

    • The Art Institute of York Pennsylvania offers an associate degree in kitchen and bath design. Focusing on creative as well as commercial aspects of kitchen and bath design, courses range from lighting design to professional rules of conduct, interior design and marketing. The practical approach of the program prepares students for entering the industry of design, sales and installation immediately upon graduation.

    Phoenix College

    • Phoenix College in Phoenix, Arizona, offers a Kitchen and Bath Design Certification program consisting of 29 course credits devised in partnership with the National Kitchen and Bath Association. The certification falls under the Applied Science Degree but students may opt to participate in the Kitchen and Bath program exclusively. Both technical and aesthetic elements of kitchen and bath design are emphasized in the program, as are aspects of sales, marketing and communication.

    Triton College

    • Triton College in River Grove, Illinois, offers a Kitchen and Bath Design degree aimed at preparing students for immediate work in the field upon graduation. Courses, totaling 65 credits, offer a wide-ranging scope from interior design history to American lifestyle studies, architecture, masonry, lighting design and construction.

    West Valley College

    • West Valley College in Saratoga, California, offers a certification in Kitchen and Bath Design within its wider Interior Design program. Students gain creative problem-solving and design skills directly relevant to kitchen and bath remodeling and construction. In addition to architecture and design, the program focuses on practical knowledge concerning equipment, construction, materials and building codes.
