Residential Design Schools

Residential design focuses on what type of housing and what type of property layouts would best suit a residential development. The intent is to create a beneficial community for the residents living in the development. If you are interested in residential design, there are several programs that you should consider.
  1. Northcentral Technical College

    • Northcentral Technical College is located in Wausau, Wisconsin, and offers an associates degree that focuses on residential design. The program has a total of 68 credits and covers topics such as structural analysis, code interpretation, cost estimation, residential and light commercial design, and renewable energy. Students will also have the opportunity to become familiar with Autocad.

    Truckee Meadows Community College

    • Truckee Meadows Community College, in Reno, Nevada, offers a degree in architectural design technology with an emphasis in residential design. The program assists students in learning how to design and draft on computers and also analyze construction data. It is a two-year degree and follows the guidelines of the Nevada State Board of Architecture.

    Boston Architectural College

    • The Boston Architectural College is located in Boston, Massachusetts, and offers a graduate-level sustainable design certificate in residential design. The certificate is designed to help architects learn new skills, to advance their careers. The residential-design certificate is composed of six courses that include sustainable design as a way of thinking, the zero energy home, green residential remodeling and renovations, residential energy modeling, site design, and a course from the full architecture curriculum.

    Loyalist College

    • Loyalist College, in Belleville, Ontario, offers a one-year college certificate in residential design and drafting. The program teaches students how to read and draft blueprints, understand residential building codes, gain computer skills, use Autocad, understand wood-frame construction methods, estimate materials and costs, market their ideas, and understand environmentally friendly construction systems and design.
