The School of Allied Health Professionals at Loma Linda University conducts phlebotomy training programs that prepares students to obtain a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I designation. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED; current immunization for measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus and PPD; CPR certification through the American Heart Association; and one professional recommendation. Applicants apply as a non-degree seeking student and must obtain the signature of the phlebotomy training program director when submitting an application. Students must attain at least a 2.0 GPA at the end of the program to become eligible for the national certification exam (Reference 2).

The state-approved phlebotomy training program at Chaffey College lasts for 10 weeks and costs $2000, as of July 2010. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, attend an orientation before registration and pass a medical screening and background check. Chaffey College offers the program at its three continuing education locations in Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana and Chino. All fees for the program are due at the time of registration (Reference 3).

Applicants for the phlebotomy training program at Mission Career College must have a high school diploma or GED and pass the school’s Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam with a score of at least 15. After completing the enrollment questionnaire, an admissions representative will contact the applicant to setup an interview session, tour the campus, take the entrance exam and complete the enrollment process. The school notifies applicants of their admission status with 10 days. The phlebotomy program starts every six weeks (References 4, 5).
