Pueblo Community College admits students into its phlebotomy technician certificate program on a first come, first served basis. Entry requirements include the achievement of minimum standards in reading, math and English. Students may elect to take specific math, reading and English courses instead of standardized testing, in order to fulfill these minimum requirements. Candidates for the phlebotomy technician certificate program must apply to the college's Health Professions Division through the division's administrative assistant or program coordinator. All candidates for this program will also be required to submit to a background check.

The phlebotomy technician certificate program at Pueblo Community College is a two-course, one-semester program. Coursework includes training in venipuncture, safety procedures, capillary puncture, infection control, quality control and laboratory computer systems. Students will be involved in classroom lectures, laboratory training and clinical experience. Students will practice blood-drawing techniques in both laboratory and clinical environments. Students who successfully complete this course of study will be prepared to take the National Phlebotomy Registry Exam. Successful completion of the program involves the courses Advanced Phlebotomy and Phlebotomy, Specimen Collection, Specimen Processing for a total of seven credit hours.
Pueblo Community College's phlebotomy technician certificate program trains students to collect and process blood and other bodily fluids for medical analysis. Students are trained in various methods of drawing blood, including procedures for the elderly, children and people with veins that are hard to find. Students are trained to work as part of a team. Record-keeping and medical documentation are also an important aspect of this program. Students are exposed to the challenges associated with working in a variety of medical environments including hospitals, medical laboratories, physician offices and public health facilities.
