The Community College of Allegheny County offers two associate degree programs for either an Electrical Construction or Electrical Distribution Technician. The Electrical Construction Technician program lasts for five years and includes a hands-on apprenticeship to the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. The Electrical Distribution certification is geared towards preparing students for an entry-level electric utility career and takes 35 credit hours to complete. Students must have a commercial driver's license, and a 40-hour pole climbing course must be completed prior to entering the program.

The Dean Institute of Technology is a career training center that offers an associates degree for electricians. Their daytime class program lasts for 15 months, and the evening program runs for 30 months. This career training program prepares students to become entry-level electrical technicians, giving them classroom and hands-on experience with residential, industrial and commercial grade electrical systems.

Triangle Tech offers an associates degree in maintenance electricity and construction technology and a diploma program for residential and light commercial applications. The associates electrician program is 16 months long, and covers wiring, design, installation, maintenance and power distribution. The diploma program offers basic instruction, focusing mainly on residential wiring and design.
