Independent Electrical Contractors Association of Arizona (IECA) offers an electrical apprenticeship program with classes starting each August at Gateway Community College in Phoenix. It also offers classes outside of the Phoenix metro area on an as-needed basis. The IECA program is a four-year program and classes are two nights a week for two and a half hours each evening. During the day the student will work with an IECA contractor and during the four-year apprenticeship the student must complete 8,000 hours of on-the-job training. To qualify for the program, students must have a high school diploma or GED, dependable transportation and be physically able to do the work.

The Phoenix Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (PEJATC) has its own training facility at Gateway Community College in Phoenix and requires its apprentices to complete six hours of classroom training each week. By the end of the apprenticeship the student will have completed 900 classroom hours and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training. To qualify for the PEJATC program, students must be 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED, including one full year of algebra or one semester of college algebra.

The Arizona Builders' Alliance offers electrical apprenticeship classes at Gateway Community College in Phoenix and Pima Community College in Tucson. The ABA program requires that students complete a core skills program and four levels of classes. Students with previous education and/or experience may test out of the core program and the first two levels of classes, but must complete levels three and four regardless of previous experience.

Southwest Electrical Training Center (SETC) offers in class training in Maricopa, Cochise and Coconino counties as well as online distance-learning classes for students in other parts of the state. In Maricopa County, SETC offers Spanish transition classes that teach the first two courses in Spanish before transitioning students into an English learning environment. Both the online and in-person classes are accelerated so that students finish in two years and seven months instead of the typical four years. Students takes classes for three months with a month off in between. Unlike union programs, SETC does not place students directly with a contractor for on-the-job training, but can help students located a contractor to work with.
