Electrician Courses in Georgia

Becoming an electrician in Georgia demands a combination of work experience and training. By studying electrical construction, you begin the process of learning Georgia electrical code and secure employment within the electrical field. This experience can then count toward the four years necessary to obtain an electrical contractor's license. Several technical and trade schools offer electrical training throughout the state.

    • With five Georgia locations, in Oakwood, Cumming, Winder, Commerce and Dawsonville, Lanier Technical College offers a diploma in electrical construction and management lasting approximately five quarters. It includes coursework in English and mathematics as well as commercial and residential wiring, electrical prints, schemes and symbols and principles of electricity. The full course costs approximately $4,790, including books and fees, as of July 2010. Applicants must have received a high school diploma or passed a GED and be 16 years of age. Pell Grants and HOPE Grants may apply to the program.

    Georgia Northwestern Technical College

    • With campuses in Gordon and Floyd counties, Georgia Northwestern Technical College offers a diploma program in electrical construction and maintenance that prepares graduates for work in the electrical field. The program lasts approximately six quarters. In addition to core classes in English and mathematics, it includes coursework in commercial and residential wiring, industrial safety protocol, introduction to microcomputers and technical electives. Applicants must be at least 16 years old with a high school diploma or GED. Tuition is $675 per quarter for full-time students or $45 per credit hour for part-time students. Books and materials are not included.

    Central Georgia Technical College

    • With campuses in Macon and Midgeville, Central Georgia Technical College offers a full diploma program in electrical construction and maintenance at its Macon location. The program requires completion of 72 credit hours, lasting five to six quarters. Applicants may enter the program at the beginning of any quarter. They must have a high school diploma or a GED and be at least 16 years old. A full load of classes, of 15 credit hours, costs $675 per quarter. Tuition rates for part-time students range according to the course load, beginning at $45 for a single credit hour. Registration fees, books and materials are not included.
