  1. The New School for Drama and Acting

    • The New School for Drama and Acting offers students the opportunity to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree in three years. It prepares students for entry into the theatre industry as an actor, playwright or director. The acting option in this school uses both external and internal approaches to intensive training. During the first year, students learn the basic skills involved in acting and the discovery of text. During the second year, students focus on monologue and scene work acting, voice and movement. The third and final year focuses on production. The curriculum uses the first two years of study for professional preparation.

    KD Studio

    • KD Studio offers a variety of training options ranging from weekend-long workshops to their conservatory program that lasts 15 months. Some of the workshops for teenagers and children include Introduction to Television Commercials, Teens Camera Acting and Introduction to Acting, all of which take place only on weekends over the course of eight weeks. Summer camps include film camps for teens and children that require attendance weekdays for two weeks. Evening workshops include an Introduction to Acting, Camera Acting Technique and Introduction to Television Commercials, which all take place over the course of eight weeks on various days of the week. The 15-month Conservatory Program in Acting Performance leads to the completion of an Associate of Applied Arts degree. Courses in the program include creative process, speech and phonetics, Shakespeare and social psychology.

    The Actors Center

    • The Actors Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania offers two class options for adults and one class for students between the ages of eight and 18. The first option for adults is the Principles of Acting class that takes place on Tuesdays between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. This class covers character development and establishing your personal monologue. It allows one excused absence from the seven consecutive weeks of class. The other option is the On Camera/Voice Over program which lasts for eight consecutive weeks and allows one excused absence. In this class option, students attend class on Wednesdays between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and learn skills in commercial copy, voice over, cue cards and teleprompter usage. Younger students take the Young Performers Acting Classes on Saturdays between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for seven weeks. Students learn improvisation, voice over, acting, on-camera and dance movement.
