College of the Mainland is located in between Houston and Galveston in Texas City. The vocational nursing program provides a small faculty to student ratio, which facilitates more in-epth learning throughout the yearlong process. Faculty mentors assist students individually with issues and questions they may be experiencing. Clinical rounds in actual health care settings give students maximum experiential learning to enforce classroom lessons. In addition to these two portions of the program, students work with a computerized mannequin patient, SIM Man. This unique feature of the College of the Mainland program sets it apart from most other vocational nursing schools.

Originally a private college for girls started in the late 1800s by an Episcopalian bishop, this college has one of the top vocational nursing programs in Texas. The curriculum includes both practical and didactic learning portions wherein students learn medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology and basic patient care skills. The school is also dedicated to teaching students critical thinking in fast paced situations and practice standards for nursing as well as ethics. Nurses graduating from St. Philips College will not only have a deep understanding of the skills necessary to perform competently and confidently, but will be nurturing and sensitive to others. Many graduates seek employment in the wide variety of medical specialties available to them as licensed vocational nurses, but others continue their education to complete studies necessary to become registered nurses.
