  1. Northern Virginia Community College

    • With a main campus in Annandale and satellite campuses throughout northern Virginia, including Springfield, Northern Virginia Community College offers students two phlebotomy programs. Students can enter into a certificate program that offers training in blood sample collection with an emphasis on safety for patients and staff. This course is offered in the Springfield campus. An online course is also available. Designed for health care professionals with at least one year of service but without certification, the program offers students a flexible environment as they work toward certification while on the job.

    Tidewater Community College

    • Located in Norfolk, Tidewater Community College offers a phlebotomy technician program as one of the college's work-force development programs. Through a 90-hour program, students will learn how to collect blood samples as well as how to safely handle samples and perform venipunctures. Classes are held on both days and evenings.

    J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College of Nursing and Allied Health

    • Located in Richmond, the J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College School of Nursing and Allied Health is a community college that offers students a program in phlebotomy certification. The program includes two training courses with a total of eight credits teaching students the fundamentals of phlebotomy and a clinic practicum that allow students to train. While the first course is offered typically on weekday evenings, the clinical practicum offers students a taste of the real workplace, with hours mirroring a typical workweek. The program can be completed in a 12-week cycle.
