Olympic College offers a two-year associate degree program in fire science that is designed for students who intend to continue training at a four-year program. Required subjects include English composition, math, sociology and psychology. Course options for new firefighter recruits include introduction to fire protection, hazardous materials response and fundamentals of firefighting and emergency medicine. Courses designed for career firefighters include fire protection strategy and tactics, human behavior in fire, inspection and fire protection systems and code enforcement. The college has more than 110 full-time faculty and approximately 13,900 students. In the 2008-2009 school year, the college fielded more than $12 million in financial aid.

Holy Family University's fire science and public safety administration major targets transfer students who have already completed a minimum of 27 credits in fire safety. The program emphasizes emergency response, communication, critical thinking, management and decision-making. The curriculum includes classes in major incident analysis,
public risk analysis, emergency services administration and contemporary public safety issues. The university enrolls approximately 3,500 students with an average class size of 18. Campus life beyond academics is rich with more than 30 clubs and activities such as bowling, campus ministry, flag football and the Visual Arts Association. Holy Family prescribes to a Roman Catholic affiliation and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

The University of New Haven's Fire Science Department offers both two-year and four-year programs wherein graduates can earn bachelor's and master's degrees, respectively. Students gain practical experience during fieldwork and in the six campus laboratories, which include a main lab, a computer lab, a fire investigation lab, a fire dynamics lab, a fire detection and alarm lab and a sprinkler lab. Courses of study include fire science technology, fire and arson investigation and fire administration. Students may also earn an Industrial Fire Protection Certificate by completing 18 credits that include courses in fire and casualty insurance, fire prevention, special hazards control, principles of fire science technology and industrial fire protection. The school's Fire Science Club hosts weekly meetings, conducts field trips and engages in community service projects.
