Montgomery County Community College

• Montgomery County Community College is a public institution approximately 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The college offers an NAACLS-phlebotomy program that meets twice per week for 13 weeks. Classes are held during the evenings to accommodate the schedules of working adults. Students must pass an admission test in reading and basic mathematics prior to enrolling. In order to receive the program's certificate of completion, students must hold active CPR certification at the time of graduation. No financial aid is offered for the program.

Community College of Beaver County

• The Community College of Beaver County is 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The NAACLS-accredited program offered by the college incorporates not only phlebotomy, but also nurse's aide techniques and training in medical laboratory service and how to operate electrocardiography (EKG) equipment. In addition to the professional courses in the program, a class in communications is required for graduation. Students take courses full-time for 12 months and receive a certificate upon completion. To enroll in the program, students must provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations, test negative for tuberculosis and pass a criminal-background check. Federal and state financial aid is available for qualified students.

Community College of Philadelphia

• The Community College of Philadelphia is situated on an urban campus to the north of downtown Philadelphia and is home to more than 34,000 credit and non-credit students. The college offers a one-semester NAACLS-approved phlebotomy course. Each week, students in the program spend two hours per week in classes, three hours in on-campus laboratory settings receiving hands-on practice and eight hours in outpatient clinical settings throughout the Philadelphia area. A physical examination and proof of medical insurance are required for admission, and all applicants must pass a placement examination, a criminal-background check and a drug test. The college does not accept financial aid for the phlebotomy program.
