DeVry University has more than 90 campuses in the U.S. as of January 2011. Only one of them, however -- located in North Brunswick, New Jersey -- offers an Associate of Applied Science in Electroneurodiagnostic Technology degree. Students need at least 65 credits for graduation. General education courses in subjects such as math and communications skills are required, in addition to courses such as Neuroelectric Theory and Instrumentation and Neuroscience.
Located in Phoenix, Arizona, Grand Canyon University has a Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Science degree. You need 120 credits -- almost double that of DeVry -- to complete this program. Forty-five of them are core courses such as Risk Management and Health Care Regulations, Transcultural Health Care, Quality Management in Medical Imaging and Medical Imaging in the Digital Environment. Here, aspiring electroneurodiagnostic techs acquire the general skills needed as practitioners of diagnostic medical sonography.
At its School of Continuing and Professional Studies, New York University offers a general associate program in diagnostic medical sonography. Like Grand Canyon University, NYU does not have the electroneurodiagnostic specialization. Students, however, take a two-credit course in neurosonography, which focuses on imaging of the brain and the nervous system. Other courses include Abdominal Sonography, Cardiovascular Principles, Doppler Echocardiography, Obstetrical/Gynecological Sonography, and Sonographic Principles. Additionally, students are required to take up to 10 credits of writing workshop activity among the general education requirements. A minimum of 77 credits is needed for graduation at NYU's associate sonography program.
Sanford-Brown College offers a degree program in polysomnography. This can be considered a specialty within electroneurodiagnostic technology, since it records the electric activity of the brain specifically for diagnosing and treating sleep disorders. The campus at Monroeville, Pennsylvania has a diploma program, while the location at Fenton, Missouri has the more expansive associate degree choice.
