Founded in 1941, SPA is based in New Delhi and provides exceptional training in the various fields of architecture, most notably in areas pertaining to human habitat and environment. At the bachelor's level students can study planning and architecture. Programs offered at the master's level include urban and regional planning, landscape architecture and architectural conservation.

Jamia Millia Islamia, born out of the Indian national movement against British colonial rule in the 1920s, is located in New Delhi. The University of Baroda was founded in 1927 by the grandson of Maharaja Sayajirao, the "great" king of Baroda, a city that is located in the province of Gujarat. Undergraduate programs in architecture at Baroda focus on teaching design through studio-based projects. The department has 200 students enrolled in the program. Sir J.J. College of architecture is a world-renowned institution located in Mumbai, India's capital. The college was established in 1913 by the government of Bombay. A bachelor's degree in architecture requires five year to complete; students may also earn a master of architecture and urban conservation. First-year students must complete 192 hours of classroom training in the basics of design.
