Sweet Briar College (SBC) in Sweet Briar, Virginia, is an all-women's liberal arts college that has received national recognition. U.S. News & World Report ranked the college 97th in the nation in 2010 among all liberal arts colleges. Hampden-Sydney College is an all men's private college affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The college enrolls approximately 1,100 students each year and offers a variety of degree programs. Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia, is the state's third-highest rated non-university institution of higher learning. According to U.S. News & World Report, Randolph College ranked No. 118 among all liberal arts colleges. At one time a women's college, Randolph has been a co-ed institution since 2007; approximately 560 students enroll each year, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 8:1. The college offers over 50 different programs of study at the baccalaureate level such as art, classical studies, communication studies, dance, education, engineering physics, global studies, history, psychology and religion. Randolph also offers a design-your-own major option as well. Pre-professional programs are also offered in the areas of education, engineering physics, pre-law, pre-medicine and pre-veterinary studies.
Students in the health services field can receive a bachelor of arts from Randolph College and then move on to either Johns Hopkins University or Vanderbilt University's School of nursing to receive the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) through the college's ongoing collaboration with both universities. The college also has agreements with engineering schools such as the University of Virginia, Washington University in St. Louis and Vanderbilt to pursue joint degrees through both colleges.
