The Best Law Colleges in Florida

Several of Florida's public and private universities contain colleges of law that offer juris doctor (JD) and master of laws (LLM) degree programs, as well as a variety of dual degree options. In 2009, "U.S. News & World Report" ranked two of Florida's law schools among the nation's top 55 law schools.
  1. University of Florida College of Law

    • The University of Florida's Fredric G. Levin College of Law was founded in 1909. As of 2009, the school had approximately 1,150 students working toward juris doctor (JD) and master of laws (LLM) degrees in comparative law, environmental and land use law, taxation and international taxation. The college also offers a variety of certificate programs, dual degree programs and externship opportunities with local government and nonprofit institutions. In 2009, "U.S. News & World Report" ranked the University of Florida's Levin College of Law 51st among the nation's top law schools. The school also tied for second place in the same magazine's specialty ranking of tax law programs.

    Florida State University College of Law

    • Florida State University's College of Law was founded in 1966. The college offers programs in three primary fields, including environmental and land use law, international law and law, business and economics. Students can work toward juris doctor (JD) degrees or joint JD and master's degrees with FSU's College of Business or the departments of economics, public administration or social work. In 2009, "U.S. News & World Report" ranked Florida State University's College of Law 52nd among the nation's law schools.

    Stetson University College of Law

    • Stetson University's College of Law was founded in 1900 and is the state's oldest law school. As of 2009, the school had about 1,000 students working toward JD degrees, LLM degrees and certificates in advocacy, higher education law, international law and elder law. Stetson's College of Law also offers dual degree programs leading toward JD and MBA degrees, JD and master of public health degrees and JD and doctor of medicine degrees. In 2009, "U.S. News & World Report" ranked Stetson University 16th among the nation's part-time law schools. The same magazine ranked Stetson first in the trial advocacy field and fifth in legal writing.
