The Best Engineering Colleges in Florida

Several of Florida's public universities contain engineering colleges that offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs. In 2009, US News and World Report ranked two of these schools among the nation's top 90 engineering schools; one Florida engineering school ranked among the nation's top 25. Students at Florida's engineering schools can work toward bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in a variety of engineering fields, including electrical, industrial, mechanical, aerospace and nuclear engineering.

    • The University of Florida College of Engineering, founded in 1910, offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in 11 primary research areas, including biological engineering, chemical engineering, coastal engineering, and materials science and engineering. The University of Florida College of Engineering was ranked 25th in US News and World Report's 2009 ranking of engineering schools. In its rankings of engineering specialty departments, the same magazine ranked the University of Florida's College of Engineering among the top 10 in materials engineering and nuclear engineering.

    University of Central Florida College of Engineering and Computer Science

    • The University of Central Florida College of Engineering and Computer Science was founded in 1968. Undergraduates and graduate students can pursue bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in 16 different fields of study within the college's five departments, including the departments of civil, environmental and construction engineering; electrical engineering and computer science; engineering technology; industrial engineering and management systems; and mechanical, materials and aerospace engineering. The University of Central Florida College of Engineering and Computer Science tied for 86th in US News and World Report's 2009 ranking of engineering schools.

    Florida A&M University---Florida State University College of Engineering

    • Florida A&M University and Florida State University joined to form the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering in 1982. As of 2009, the college had about 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students and five academic departments, including chemical and biomedical engineering; civil and environmental engineering; electrical and computer engineering; industrial and manufacturing engineering; and mechanical engineering. Students can work toward bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in 18 different fields within the college's five departments. Some of these fields include chemical engineering, materials engineering, biomedical engineering, optoelectronics, robotics and fluid mechanics.
