The University of Leicester offers a part-time Doctor of Philosophy in Law by distance education. Individuals interested in pursuing this doctorate must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree, either in law or in an affiliated program. The program takes from three to six years to complete, and will require approximately 10 to 15 hours of attention each week. The thesis required for this program should be approximately 80,000 words.
The program also requires that students attend research seminars and in-person consultations with a supervisor to monitor progress of the student's thesis work. Students will begin the first 21 months of the program as advanced postgraduate students, then undergo a progress review. If the review is positive, students will be considered full Ph.D. students.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Archaeological Studies at Leicester University is an excellent post-graduate opportunity for individuals whose prior commitments prevent them from studying full time. The award of a doctoral degree is entirely dependent upon an 80,000 word thesis; however, research training modules and significant interaction with supervisors is also provided to aid students with the research for and composition of the thesis. The Ph.D. program is generally five years in length on a part-time basis.
During the first year, students are considered advanced postgraduate students, after which they will attend an upgrade interview and examination and will progress to their doctoral studies following success in both. Travel costs associated with this interview are the responsibility of the student, but the University of Leicester accepts the cost of accommodations while the student is on campus.
Applicants should possess an honours undergraduate degree or masters degree in a related discipline with significant experience in the field. Prior to applying, candidates must complete a preapplication form with research proposal information to determine appropriate supervisors and research approaches.
