A List of the Grants Available for Hispanics for a Doctoral Degree

There are various scholarships which are available to Hispanic students interested in completing their Ph.D. Some are geared specifically toward minorities or Hispanics in particular. Others are geared toward doctoral students regardless of ethnicity. The grants may range from a few thousand to several thousand dollars. It pays to do some homework to see what funding opportunities are available.
  1. Google Scholarship Program

    • Google offers a $10,000 scholarship to Hispanic students earning their master's or Ph.D. in computer science and computer engineering. The scholarship is open to Hispanic students earning their Ph.D. but also to master's level and undergradute students as well. Requirements for the scholarship include a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, demonstrated financial need, and matriculation in a school in the U.S. or Puerto Rico. To apply, you must visit Google's website.

    NASCAR/Wendell Scott Award

    • The NASCAR/Wendell Scott award provides funding for Hispanic students who are graduate and undergraduate students attending schools in Florida, North Carolina or Georgia. The award amounts to $12,100. To qualify students must be attending a school that is a member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. They must also be majoring in public relations, business, engineering, mass media, among other related fields.

    The National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts

    • The National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts awards funding to students in graduate programs at high-caliber American universities. There is no grant amount given, but the organization has already given out $900,000 in funding. Requirements include that students must be graduate students in the fields of drama/theatre, film production, writing and directing, business administration with a stress on the entertainment industry, among related fields. The students also must be in programs like the Yale University Drama Department, University of Texas at Austin Communications School, Harvard University Lampoon magazine comedy writers, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, among others.
