Scholarships for Kentucky Colleges

If you're a resident of Kentucky planning to stay in your state for college, you may be eligible to apply for numerous scholarships. Most Kentucky scholarship programs issue awards of at least $1,000. Many require specific majors or membership in a sponsoring organization. Although most scholarships are intended to help students in need cover the costs of college tuition, some programs allow winners to use the money toward school-related expenses such as textbooks and computers.
  1. Jackson Energy Scholarships

    • Students who are related to a member of the Jackson Energy Cooperative can apply for $1,000 scholarships. Membership in the Jackson Energy Cooperative is reserved for shareholders of the nonprofit utility company, similar to those who purchase a share or interest in a credit union.

However, a student applicant may not be an immediate family member of someone directly employed by Jackson Energy or a member of the company's board of directors. Applicants also must be legal residents of Kentucky and no more than 21 years old. High-school seniors and college students may apply as long as they meet basic application guidelines. An essay is required. Jackson Energy typically awards 16 scholarships each year.
