The Governor's School for the Arts (GSA) is a 3-week summer program in which Kentucky's most talented and creative high school artists, musicians, dancers, actors and architects gather for intensive instruction before going on to college. Over 1,600 students audition each year, but only 223 are selected. The privilege to attend this gathering includes full tuition, room and board, plus opportunities for many scholarships to attend individual colleges in Kentucky. Morehead State University, for example, offers alumni of GSA the opportunity to apply for the Presidential Scholarship, which includes full tuition and campus housing. The applicant must also have a minimum ACT composite of 23. A limited number of these scholarships are given each year.
