The U.S. government offers grants to nursing students, including minorities, in a variety of specialties, including nurse practitioner and nurse midwife. The grants are issued by the National Health Services Corp. In exchange for two to four years of work as a nurse in an approved area where there is a shortage of nurses, recipients may be reimbursed for tuition, fees and other costs. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
