Michigan Military Schools

While many private military schools in the country are designed as boarding schools to house troubled youth, they can also be used as centers to train individuals who are interested in building military careers. The majority of military school programs made available in Michigan fall into this second category, and are designed to provide aspiring military, army, navy or air force professionals with training through university campuses.
  1. Northwestern Michigan University - Great Lakes Maritime Academy

    • The Great Lakes Maritime Academy at Northwestern Michigan University primarily trains engineering officers for the shipping industry, but it also offers an academy program for individuals interested in joining the U.S. Naval Reserve. Students enrolled in the academy’s Naval Reserve & Merchant Marine program must complete naval science training courses in addition to general education courses offered by the school. They are also required to complete military science training activities such as labs, drills and presentations, and are issued naval uniforms to wear during these occasions.

Central Michigan University – Army Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC)

    • Central Michigan University is a 4-year public school situated in the centrally located town of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. The school offers a Military Science/Army ROTC training program for students who are interested in either learning about military science or joining the army. Enrolling in the Military Science/Army ROTC program at CMU does not in any way obligate students to join the military upon graduation. It is instead advocated as a leadership program, and can prepare students for careers in the following fields: medical science, aviation, intelligence, security, law enforcement or interpretation. Students who are interested in the military program also have access to exclusive financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
