Kettering University, a private university with an emphasis on engineering, math and science, was founded in 1919. As of 2009, the school had about 2,100 undergraduates and 500 graduate students. The college offers undergraduate degree programs in chemical, computer, electrical, industrial and mechanical engineering, and graduate degree programs in automotive, electrical, computer, manufacturing and mechanical engineering. Students can also work toward dual degrees in engineering and mathematics fields. In 2009, U.S. News & World Report ranked Kettering University 1st among undergraduate industrial and manufacturing engineering programs where doctorate degrees are not offered.
