Texas Engineering Schools

Texas is home to some of the top engineering schools in the nation. Many of Texas' engineering schools offer various programs such as civil engineering and engineering technology. Internship and assistant programs for Texans are also offered in the field, as well as the opportunity to conduct cutting edge research.
  1. Texas A&M

    • Founded in 1876, Texas A&M was the first public university hiring engineering professors as faculty. Ranked in the top undergraduate engineering programs in the nation, as of early 2011, Texas A&M Engineering school offers 16 majors in 12 departments for students to choose from. The graduate degree program offers Master of Science, Master of Engineering, Master of Industrial Distribution, Master of Computer Science, Doctor of Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy. According to Texas A&M, its graduate programs are also ranked top in the nation.

    University of Houston

    • Located in the fourth largest city in the United States, the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering awards Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Master of Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Twelve of Cullen College of Engineering professors and alumni's are members of the National Academy of Engineering, with many others receiving national recognition. A degree from the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering can lead to a career in engineering, business or medicine.

    Prairie View A&M University

    • Prairie View A&M University, a historical black university offers bachelor, masters and doctorate degrees in engineering in six different departments: civil engineering, chemical engineering, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, engineering technology and mechanical engineering. At the Prairie View Roy G. Perry College of Engineering students participate in internships and assistant roles throughout their education program. According to Prairie View, 80 percent of undergraduates receive financial aid and most graduate students receive research scholarships.

    Lamar University

    • Lamar University, in Beaumont, Texas has five different engineering departments for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students. The college of engineering is also home to three environmental research centers and receives $3.5 million a year in outside funding, as of early 2011. The College of Engineering has 804 undergraduate and 306 graduate students. Lamar's motto is "Imagine it . Design it. Build it. Improve it."
