Christian Engineering Schools

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the demand for engineers will increase by 11 percent from 2008 through 2018, resulting in the creation of 178,300 new jobs in the field. To begin a career in the field, students must complete a minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering. Among the many engineering schools throughout the United States is a number of private institutions affiliated with various Christian denominations.
  1. Marquette University

    • In 2010, U.S. News and World Report ranked Catholic Marquette University eighty-fourth among all universities in the United States. The school's campus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is home to more than 8,000 undergraduate students. The school is the largest private school in Wisconsin and grants bachelor's, master's and doctoral engineering degrees. Among the areas of specialization offered are biolmedical, civil, electrical, computer and mechanical. Undergraduate students in the School of Engineering have the option to complete paid co-operative education programs with local engineering firms. Religious studies and theology courses are required for all students.

    Southern Methodist University

    • The United Methodist Church founded Southern Methodist University in 1911 in Dallas, Texas. Ranked sixty-eighth among all universities by U.S. News and World Report in 2010, the college has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 6,200 students. The Bobby B. Lyle School of Engineering offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Areas of specialization include computer, electrical, environmental, civil and mechanical engineer as well as engineering management. Co-operative work opportunities are available for engineering students as well as a mentoring program to help students succeed in the Bachelor of Engineering programs.

    California Baptist University

    • Located 60 miles east of Los Angeles, California Baptist University was founded by the Southern Baptist Convention in 1950. The school is home to nearly 3,100 undergraduate students. The college's undergraduate engineering programs include civil, electrical, computer and mechanical fields. Christian studies courses are also required for graduation from the school. All students in the engineering program also participate in unpaid internships during the summer of their junior years. Students are also required to spend a semester abroad either participating in a Christian missions program or as a part of an international studies program.

    Muskingum University

    • Founded in 1837 by the Presbyterian Church U.S.A., Muskingum University is in New Concord, Ohio, approximately 50 miles east of Columbus. The school's rural campus is home to nearly 1,700 undergraduate students. Students at Muskingum have two options for pursuing a degree in engineering. One option is the pre-engineering program pursue a bachelor's degree in any field they choose while taking courses to prepare for graduate school in engineering. Another option is to complete three years of study at the Presbyterian university followed by two years at prestigious Cleveland-based Case Western University.
