Private Engineering Schools

Engineers provide solutions to technical problems in an economic way using scientific and mathematical principles. Entry-level positions require a bachelor's degree, and managerial or specialized fields require a master's degree or higher. Civil, mechanical and industrial engineers make up the largest percentage of engineering employees, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Median salaries in 2008 varied by specialty, ranging from $72,490 for health and safety engineers up to $108,020 for petroleum engineers. Prospective engineering students have several program options to choose from, including those offered by private schools.
  1. Drexel University

    • Drexel College of Engineering at Drexel University, the nation's largest private engineering college, has an enrollment of more than 3,000 undergraduate engineering students. "U.S.News & World Report" ranked the university No. 51 in its 2010 survey of 198 engineering schools.

The school offers bachelor's curricula in engineering that are combined with an M.D., M.B.A. or a Juris Doctor degree. The school offers degree programs in architectural, chemical, civil, computer, computer science, electrical, management, environmental, materials science, mechanical, software and telecommunications engineering. Part of the school's engineering work takes place in the Edmund D.
