Good Mechanical Engineering Colleges

Often considered generalists in the field of engineering, mechanical engineers can find careers in industries such as telecommunications, electronics and manufacturing, and in both public and private institutions. Mechanical engineers work with concepts such as motion and energy and are active in both design and manufacturing. The United States has many mechanical engineering schools, and some of the best are Stanford University; University of California, Berkeley; the University of Michigan; and Princeton University. The mechanical engineering programs at those schools all ranked in U.S. News and World Report's top ten in 2010.
  1. MIT

    • Ranked by U.S. News and World Report in 2010 as the best mechanical engineering school, MIT, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, offers students a broad-based education in the concepts and principles of mechanical engineering. Students can choose from three undergraduate degree programs in mechanical engineering. Course work in mechanics, materials, and systems and control are combined with laboratory and design work. In addition to its traditional course of study, MIT also offers students a mechanical and ocean engineering degree. MIT also offers graduate and doctoral studies in mechanical engineering.
