Colleges & Universities With Mechanical Engineering Degrees

Mechanical engineers are responsible for researching, designing and making devices such as machines and engines. There are a variety of jobs that can be done by a mechanical engineer, including working on industrial production equipment, in technical sales and in agriculture production. A career in mechanical engineering often starts with acquiring a degree in the field at a university or college.
  1. Purdue University

    • Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Indiana, has a school of mechanical engineering with undergraduate and graduate degree programs staffed with 30 professors, 16 associate professors and five assistant professors to ensure a 16-1 student-to-faculty ratio. Students are expected to carry a workload of approximately 60 to 70 hours per week so they get all they can out of the program. Classes include chemistry, mechanics, calculus, machine design and engineering design. Campus housing with free city bus access, health and recreational facilities and dining services are available to mechanical engineering students.

    UMass Dartmouth

    • UMass Dartmouth, in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, offers degrees in mechanical engineering. Students are taught by tenured or tenure-track faculty and work in small groups of three to four in lab classes so everyone gets plenty of hands-on experience. Courses include writing, computer programming, fluid mechanics and elements of electrical engineering. Mechanical engineers who graduate from UMass Dartmouth will be prepared and qualified for careers in fields such as fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, bioengineering, robotics and design.

Missouri University of Science and Technology

    • The Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri has an undergraduate mechanical engineering degree program that's the biggest program on campus. Students are taught every aspect of engineering to prepare them for any the mechanical engineering career. During the first two years of the program, students are required to live on campus in one of six residence halls. Four dining options are available right on campus, as well as computer centers and fitness centers.

    UC Davis

    • UC Davis in Davis, California has a college of engineering with a mechanical engineering degree program that prepares students for practicing mechanical engineering by teaching science, mathematics and the principles of engineering. Students can enjoy recreational activities like fitness programs, crafts, aquatics, and outdoor adventures such as kayaking and hiking. Student housing is available in residence halls, cooperatives and campus apartments. A professionally trained culinary team prepares balanced and festive meals daily at the five campus dining facilities.
