Philadelphia Engineering Colleges

Engineering is expected to continue to have strong job growth and some of the highest starting salaries of all industries through 2011, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Most entry-level jobs in engineering require a bachelor's degree. Graduate degrees and continuing education may be required for research and more advanced positions, notes the BLS. Philadelphia offers a variety of universities with top engineering programs, including an Ivy League university and the country's largest private engineering school.
  1. Drexel University

    • Drexel University's college of engineering, with over 3,500 students in six departments, is the school's largest college---and the largest private engineering college in the United States. The college offers bachelor of science (BS) degrees in 10 engineering disciplines (such as architectural, chemical, civil and electrical engineering), a bachelor of arts (BA) in computer engineering, master of science (MS) degrees in 11 engineering disciplines and doctor of philosophy (PhD) degrees in nine engineering disciplines. The college also offers a number of combined programs: 10 engineering BS/MS degrees, 10 BS/master of business administration (MBA) degrees, nine BS/juris doctor (JD) degrees, nine BS/medical doctor (MD) degrees and 10 BS/PhD degrees.

    Temple University

    • Temple University's college of engineering offers research opportunities to undergraduates and graduates alike, as well as career services and a low student-to-faculty ratio in a large, research university setting. BS degrees are offered in civil engineering, civil and construction engineering technology, engineering technology, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. A co-op program lets students gain work experience while gaining course credit. MS degrees are available in civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical and bioengineering, and can be completed via thesis, independent research or coursework. Temple also offers a PhD in engineering.
